On 1st June 2016, English Language Institute organised a seminar "Preparation of spending more English learning hours from 1 hour to 5 hours a week" at OBEC Meeting Room 1.
Dr.Teerakiat Jareonsettasin, Deputy Minister of Education, presided over the seminar. "Students from Prathomsuksa 1 to prathomsuksa 3 in pilot schools will spend more time learning English," he said. There were approximately 50 people participating in the seminar: primary and secondary English teachers, education supervisors and academic officers. The seminar minutes were:
1. For the English hours a week, they will include:
-Functional English or English in daily life
-Online courses and language-learning apps (IT) assisted English learning
-Vocabulary and structure
-Four keys skills- listening, speaking, reading and writing
-Remedial English or self -study
2. Learning English competence and performance should be defined and determined.
3. The common and standardised English learning materials (e.g. textbooks and workbooks) should be developed.
4. Useful language-learning websites should be collected, classified, and developed in order that interested teachers and learners can learn from these websites according to their own learning pace, needs, and their English level.
